Keyes field notes. Book R, 1915-1921.

Holograph notes by Keyes documenting archaeological site visitations. The notes record descriptions of the site locations, descriptions and sketches of artifacts, and biographical details of persons associated with the sites. Book R describes sites visited between 1915 and 1921 in Poweshiek, Tama, Benton, Johnson, Wapello, Dickinson, Cherokee, Warren and Van Buren counties with the bulk of the notes pertaining to the Spirit Lake region in Dickinson County.

Keyes' primary endeavor was to compile extensive information on Iowa prehistory. He served as director of the Iowa Archaeological Survey of the State Historical Society of Iowa from 1922 to 1948.
